The Team Lead – Client Reviews is responsible for leading the Client Reviews function and ensuring the timely completion of periodic, trigger-based, and enhanced customer reviews in accordance with regulatory requirements and internal standards. The role provides operational leadership, quality oversight, and staff development while remaining actively involved in complex reviews and risk assessments.
The Team Lead will drive consistency, quality, and efficiency across the team while developing staff capability through coaching, mentoring, and structured training.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Manage the day-to-day operation of the Client Reviews team.
Assign workloads and monitor review completion against agreed timelines.
Ensure periodic review schedules are maintained and completed within regulatory requirements.
Manage complex and high-risk customer reviews.
Act as an escalation point for complex review cases and risk assessments.
Monitor team productivity and service delivery standards.
Review & Risk Oversight
Review high-risk customer files and enhanced due diligence cases.
Ensure customer information remains accurate, complete and up to date.
Assess customer activity against expected behaviour and risk appetite.
Escalate concerns and suspicious indicators in accordance with internal procedures.
Support decision-making through risk-based analysis and judgement.
Leadership, Training & Development
Lead, coach and develop a team of Client Review Analysts.
Conduct regular performance and development discussions.
Deliver technical training on KYC, risk assessments, AML obligations and periodic review requirements.
Support succession planning and talent development initiatives.
Encourage continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team.
Promote engagement, accountability, and ownership.
People Leadership Responsibilities
Manage a team of up to 6/8 employees.
Complete probationary, performance and development reviews.
Identify training needs and coordinate development plans.
Support recruitment, interviewing and onboarding activities.
Manage attendance, leave approvals and day-to-day people matters.
Promote employee engagement and wellbeing within the team.
Ensure compliance with company policies and standards.
Build succession plans and identify future talent within the department.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
Conduct quality assurance reviews on completed customer files.
Identify trends, recurring issues and process improvement opportunities.
Implement action plans to improve accuracy, efficiency and compliance outcomes.
Develop and maintain procedures, guidance notes and training material.
Produce operational and quality reports for management.
Requirements
Minimum 2-3 years’ experience within Client Reviews, AML, Compliance or Financial Crime.
Previous experience supervising or leading a team.
CAMS, ICA AML or an equivalent AML/compliance certification would be considered an asset.
Strong understanding of KYC, CDD, EDD and AML regulations.
Excellent risk assessment and investigative skills.
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and develop employees.
Strong organizational and stakeholder management skills.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
